The opinions, characters, and narratives portrayed in The Drowsy Chaperone are fictional and intended for entertainment purposes only.  Despite the campy, cheesy, and goofy nature of this show, it has some serious social commentaries, one clear example being 'Message from a Nightengale.' This is a satire of the Broadway casting of white actors in POC roles, such as in The King and I. While a beautiful piece, it was and still is known for whitewashing the role of the King as well as including subtle racism. This scene is the show's way of bringing to light these issues that unfortunately still exist.
